Thank you for being there. Sun Thank you for being there. All the warmth you radiate, and your dazzling brightness. And I can count on you to come and see me, day after day after day. You always energize me. Thank you. Moon Thank you for being there. The fresh, cool night, and the romantic night breeze. The tide rises, and ebbs. And my feelings waver too. Earth Thank you for being there. Nurturing so many lives And gently pulling us down, so that none of us falls off And oh, the generosity. Cloud Thank you for being there. When it�fs hot, you are a big parasol. At times you send down lightning. You wake me up. And rain, oh rain, always soothing to the soul. Mountain Thank you for being there. Never changing, always head held high. Looking at you makes me want to grow big, too. Powerful courage. Thank you. Forest Thank you for being there. Peace of mind, and fresh air. The warbling of songbirds, and the life-forces dancing in green. You always embrace me in a gentle caress. Wind Thank you for being there. Although I can�ft see you, I always feel you nearby. And through you, I am connected to the world. I�fm not alone, I think ? and my eyes mist a little. Head cold Thank you for being there. When it gets cold, you show up And help me through my hasty Metamorphosis into the winter version of me. You�fre why I always make it on time somehow. Thank you. River Thank you for being there. Endlessly flowing, hundreds of millions of tons of water. Born of the sea, to return to the sea ? a long, long journey. I let you caress my bare feet. Water Thank you for being there. The Earth is the Water Planet. All living creatures were born from the water. We are all alive because of water. We all share our lives with water. And clear tears can flow. Light Thank you for being there. But what are you, I sometimes wonder. Once out in space, you travel hundreds of millions of light-years. Close by, you are warm even when faint. Flower Thank you for being there. Just bursting with every color, what a lively festival. To live, to play, to be glad. And to be beautiful, you let us know they are all the same thing. That�fs why I�fm happy. That�fs why I dance. Bird Thank you for being there. You always teach me about the open sky And how important freedom is. And when I was about to look down You called out to me in a pretty voice. Thank you. Goldfish Thank you for being there. In the loneliest of times, you wait for me there. What with the water, I couldn�ft hear the words, But I know you said, �gHang in there, it�fll be okay.�h Thank you. Rainbow Thank you for being there. No miracles have happened to me yet, But you remind me that they will happen someday. Ah, yes, that�fs right. I am blessed. Up to now, right now, and from now on, too. Star Thank you for being there. When I look at the star-filled sky I am certain that the Earth is also floating in space. Countless stars, communicating with each other across hundreds of billions of years. I wonder who it was that made this. And who was it that made life? If you happen to know, Do give that Being a heartfelt �gThank you�h from me. Cup Thank you for being there. When you were not there, I was at a loss and ended up drinking water with my hands. That�fs when I thought: Cups are a great invention. All you need is a cup, and life is a breeze. Thank you. Snow Thank you for being there. The dazzle of new snow in the morning ? it�fs like a beach in midsummer. Even our �gGood Morning�h comes out with a bounce, somehow. Someone�fs already made a snowman. How I gazed out the classroom window at the glorious cherry blossoms How the uniforms on the brand-new pupils were so baggy. And the tinge of pride I felt. Lightning/thunder Thank you for being there. When I�fm sweating the small stuff �gCrash, bang�h what a scolding you give me. �gSorry, I�fll think of something more worthwhile�h You help me to be bright-eyed again. When Shogun Thunder leaves, the evening cicadas trill for the coming autumn. The Past Thank you for being there. The past being sad? No way. You�fre the reason for my happiness now. So pasts of all kinds, of all kinds, All kinds of pasts, belonging to anyone, Thank you, all of you, all of you. The Present Thank you for being there. The here and now is where everything is, And nothing is anywhere except in the here and now. The vast expanse of infinite time, the here and now. The bliss of that realization. The Future Thank you for being there. Even if it�fs a struggle, now, even if it hurts, now, There�fs got to be a future where I�fll be accepted. That�fs why I can keep going. Thank you. Window Thank you for being there. My small heart continues on into that sunny sky. My small sigh changes into that white cloud. And the answer is always, the breeze. Stairs Thank you for being there. Here comes my train, gliding into the platform. Schoolyard Thank you for being there. You were the big schoolyard, where we played, day after day. Bath Thank you for being there. My drenched hair, and soul, Go Ahhhh! in the steaming water. Yes, it sure was a cold and horrible rain, But the energy to laugh comes back. No problem, it�fs not a big deal at all. Soap Thank you for being there. I like the word bubbles, too. Soap bubbles. No matter how down I feel, when I�fm surrounded in bubbles, Somehow I�fm all better by the time they�fre rinsed away. And afterwards: squeaky clean, smooth skin. Soap Dish Thank you for being there. Without you, Mr. Soap becomes A hockey puck in the bathtub. Plus, I love washing you. Because you�fre always coated with soap, You�fre shiny bright just by rinsing off. Towel Thank you for being there. I love the great big bath towel after my bath. With the soft, fluffy smell of sunshine, You always wrap me up gently. I�fm okay now, really, I am. Thank you. Electric Fan Thank you for being there. Sure, I like using a paper fan in my cotton kimono. But with the flip of a switch, I�fm flying in the air. Whirrrrrrr. Heater Thank you for being there. My frozen hands feel your warmth. My huddled-up heart starts to melt. And I can return to the real me. My smile comes back. Thank you. Pillow Thank you for being there. You support my peaceful sleep. When I lay my head on you, that�fs when I feel most secure. My tiredness is eased, my wounds are healed. And I�fm filled with new energy. Book Thank you for being there. In loneliness, in sadness, All I do is open you up, and you start speaking to me. What a chatterbox you are. And you tell me the same story, time after time. Isn�ft that first-rate generosity? I become energized, and with a �gYes!�h I close my book. Telephone ? 1 Thank you for being there. A guy called Bell invented you, apparently. Even when we�fre far apart, I feel like I�fm not lonely. But when I can�ft get through, I feel that much more anxious. That�fs probably an extravagance, I guess. Much obliged. Telephone ? 2 Thank you for being there. When I can hear your voice, I know you�fre doing okay. Even a short conversation gives both of us energy. And I feel like I can keep going again. After the call, I�fm a different person. E-mail Thank you for being there. I receive a short e-mail. My heart races. I punch out a reply, filling a few words with lots of feeling. My love flies across the big sky, to my beloved. Movie Thank you for being there. A two-hour time travel through a dark universe. You can take me anywhere, You can show me anything. But what I love best Is when I can shed lots of gentle tears. My love for People and the World grows bigger yet. Music Thank you for being there. Comfortable harmony. Pleasant rhythm. Melodies that seep into the heart. I don�ft feel as parched any more. Music is good at changing my mood. Massage therapist for the soul. Photographs Thank you for being there. When I begin to forget to smile, I look at you in the photo. Then, straightaway, I can laugh. Because, ha ha ha ha, it�fs so funny. Thank you. Lamp Thank you for being there. Your wavering light reminds me of the stillness of the warm, ancient past. Your faint glow never dims the light of the starry sky. Mmm, wavering smiles. Sweater Thank you for being there. I like big sweaters I pull over my head. Fluffy and soft. A busy but exciting time, year-end. I wonder when we�fll see the first snow? Strawberry Thank you for being there. Sweet, tangy, fragrant. One of these days I want to find out Just how many seeds there are on you, but I�fve never done that yet. I�fm pretty sure there are about the same number of seeds on every berry Regardless of how big the berry is, but�c�c munch. Ice Thank you for being there. In the old days, we probably saw you only in winter. But now, in the summer evening, gazing out at the dyed-red clouds, I sit out on the beach deck, and see your coolness floating in my glass. Water crystals of the beautiful earth. Tinkle, clink. Wristwatch Thank you for being there. You�fre essential for arranging to meet someone. But are you sure you keep time properly? It seems like time goes really slow until we meet And then it just flies by. Oh well, thank you, anyway. Evening Rain Shower Thank you for being there. Sudden, large drops of rain. Lightning in a darkened sky. Right and left, everyone runs for cover, grinning broadly. Completely forgotten are life�fs serious problems, the important arrangements. The evening rain shower is refreshment for the soul. My Beloved Thank you for being there. I offer you all the �gThank-yous�h I ever had.
